CHEST MASCULINISATION

Candidates include transgender men and non-binary individuals experiencing gender dysphoria related to
breast tissue, who have been assessed and supported by a mental health professional experienced in
gender-affirming care, and who meet general surgical fitness criteria. Patients should ideally be at a stable
weight and be non-smokers. Dr George will work collaboratively with your existing healthcare team

The surgical technique depends on breast size and skin elasticity. For smaller chests with good skin tone, a periareolar (keyhole) approach may be used. Larger or ptotic chests typically require a double incision with free nipple grafting. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and takes approximately 2–4 hours. Drains may be placed and removed within 1–2 days. Most patients are discharged the following day

Pre-operative: Provide your referral letters and supporting documentation at consultation. Cease testosterone therapy as directed by Dr George. Cease smoking. Arrange support at home during recovery. Post-operative: Wear a firm compression vest for 4–6 weeks. Avoid lifting arms above shoulder height for 4 weeks. Nipple sensation changes are common and may be temporary or permanent. Attend all follow-up appointments carefully. Scar management begins once wounds are well healed
